Astrid and the environment
In order for you and your customers to be able to safely and transparently choose environmentally sustainable textiles of the highest quality, we work with some of the best textile factories in Europe. This provides you with access to European tradition, quality and knowledge in textile weaving. The fabrics you buy from Astrid comply with or exceed the EU REACH, a regulation that addresses the production and use of chemical substances, and their potential impacts on human health and the environment. None of our fabrics are treated with stain protection or antibacterial additives. Please read our supplier assurance , where we list our requirements for chemical restriction.

Natural fibres for the environment
Through Astrid, you have access to several collections woven from natural fibres. Linen and hemp are environmentally sound choices – they are durable, long-lasting, and every part of the plant can be used in production. They are also fully biodegradable. Growing flax and hemp requires very little irrigation, and the plants are naturally resistant to disease.

Flameproof fabrics without additives
For situations where the environment requires flame-retardant fabrics, you should choose Astrid’s flame-retardant polyester fabrics, such as Trevira CS. The in-built flame protection in the fibres of our flame-retardant fabrics makes additives unnecessary, and we have woven the fabrics from Oeko-tex certified raw materials. OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100
Several of our collections are certified according to Oeko-Tex, a global, voluntary certification system that sets standards to ensure that textiles are safe and produced in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner. The most common Oeko-Tex standard is STANDARD 100, which certifies that a product has been tested for harmful substances and is safe for human use. The collections that do not carry a certificate in our name still adhere to essentially the same strict requirements.

Recycled textiles in regular production
We stay up to date with developments in the textile industry, and we work actively on both recycling and reuse of textile materials according to their life cycles. At Astrid, you have the opportunity to choose fabrics from several different collections, see them all here, where recycled or upcycled materials have been used in the manufacturing process.

Measures that demonstrate our commitment to the environment:

We strive for a more efficient production by employing a smaller number of warps that can be varied in many structures and colours. Weaving with fewer warps and using dyed yarn helps to counteract overproduction.
We aim to avoid using fabrics in mixed materials. We only work with mixed fabrics if there is a clear and unavoidable reason to do so. For example, we only work with polyester fabrics if they are required for their flame-retardant properties. This is to facilitate recycling later in the fabric’s life cycle.
We have several collections that use at least 50% recycled material. Two of our collections are made using leftover fibers from the wool production, one with recycled wool and four made of recycled polyester with a GRS certificate.
Astrid works with factories that strive to reduce the use of water, energy and chemicals. One project has reduced its use by 70% overall, compared to their previous consumption. We use employ mechanical processing instead of water and chemicals to achieve softer fabrics.
Several of our factories have solar panels installed.
Astrid participates in several projects where our leftover fabrics are transformed into new products such as rugs or curtains. Take part of a patch work drapery project, and have a look at the rugs woven from our leftover fabrics in collaboration with Vandra Rugs.
Our fabrics are packed in 100% recycled plastic.
Within Stockholm, we use courier services that are committed to using environmentally-friendly vehicles. All other transportation of Astrid products is carried out to ensure minimal environmental impact from a logistics perspective. We carbon offset all our freight emissions through Zero Mission.
We employ a waste and recycling service that employs zero emission vehicles. We are affiliated with Näringslivets producentansvar (ex FTI).

Astrid’s sample return program
Large and small textile samples and sample hangers may be returned to us when no longer needed. All our customers are welcome to use this service – architects, interior designers, retailers.
What happens to the returned items? Reuse, upcycle, recycle, and/or correct waste disposal — prioritizing local circularity wherever possible.
For customers in Scandinavia:
Astrid provides a prepaid return option. You can also return items in person to our showroom at Nybrogatan 68, Stockholm.
For customers outside Scandinavia:
To reduce emissions from shipping, we encourage local recycling or reuse through regional partners or services. If unsure, contact us for guidance on responsible disposal or upcycling ideas.

Trevira CS Recycling Program
Trevira CS runs a take-back program for recycling of both pre- and post-consumer textiles made of Trevira CS fibrers. Collected fabrics are mechanically recycled by ALTEX in Germany into nonwoven materials used for insulation and soundproofing, such as acoustic panels for example. Get in touch for more information.

Fabric flaws and leftover fabrics – a resource
During the weaving process, small flaws or imperfections sometimes occur – traditionally discarded, but to us, they’re a valuable resource. These pieces can be used for smaller curtains, joined with seams, or repurposed in creative projects. We aim to make use of every piece of fabric – for the sake of the environment and to reduce unnecessary waste. We also have leftover fabrics from sampling or the last part of a fabric roll. These are used for samples, bags, and rag rugs and are donated to schools.

Astrid donates leftovers
Astrid supports schools, preschools and similar institutions by donating leftover pieces of fabric and samples that can be used for all kinds of craft projects. The pieces consist of high-quality fabrics in a variety of different textures, thicknesses and colours. The colours span the entire range from bright and vibrant to muted and natural. You are welcome to pick up a box of mixed fabrics at our warehouse in Bromma, but please book first at linnea@astrid.se
