Lookbook 2023 – Combinations
Astrid Lookbook — Combinations
I started Astrid out of my own passion for textiles and craft, but meeting our weaving partners in Piemonte in northwestern Italy really shaped the direction of our company. Collaborating with these skilled craftsmen, we were able to offer double width fabrics in a rich spectrum of colours — a benefit that at the time was quite uncommon. As a small business, we had the rare advantage of selecting from vast collections of plain fabrics of fantastic quality, without having to order hundreds of metres. But over the years, driven by a commitment to innovation and sustainability – and together with our weaving partners – we developed a production process that suited our approach. Since then we’ve been designing and producing our own fabric collections.
We’ve found that the key for us is to work with yarn-dyed fabrics, using the same warp each time, while employing different kinds of bindings. In this way, we can add colours, structures and patterns wherever there is a need or demand. This is how Astrid has organically grown into what it is today. We strive to create long-lasting collections that can be effortlessly applied to different uses – whether aesthetic or functional – across a variety of interior spaces. We introduced the Astrid Textile Lab to make our tactile world accessible to all. It’s an uplifting place to discover the full array of our fabrics and discuss the perfect specifications for your space — meanwhile imagining all the wonderful ways our textiles can be combined. You can visit the Astrid Textile Lab in our showroom or via our website.
The ability to effectively and playfully combine our textiles sits at the heart of our vision for Astrid. It’s a core part of our design process and a means of sharing our creative thinking with others. At least a couple of times a day, members of our team excitedly show each other new, quirky, or simply visually pleasing combinations. There are countless ways of designing with our diverse range of textures and colour palettes, and we find it endlessly inspiring to see how our customers experiment with combining our textiles. They are always giving us fresh ideas.
Curating our first lookbook around the theme of combinations is a way for us to reflect on our heritage while capturing our aspirations for the future. This publication celebrates an important milestone for our business; it’s now twenty years since I started Astrid. Here’s to the next twenty — I hope you enjoy exploring our world!
