In conversation with Bang Universe

BANG UNIVERSE creates interiors, exhibitions and objects with curiosity, joy and with the experience in focus. Colours, shapes and spectacular eye-catchers are the characteristics of the creative studio. Bang Universe is nominated to Sweden's most beautiful office for their interior of the beauty company Saether's office. We are happy that our fabrics are included as curtains!

A: Congratulations on the nomination! It is really a solid concept you have created, with many fun details and the fantastic ceiling of fluffy tulle. How did you create it?

BU: Thank you! The ceiling was destined to create something eye-catching above the reception desk; there had previously been a void in the ceiling that we could use instead of demolishing and rebuilding. Based on the concept, we wanted to create something fluffy and powdery. So, we hung around 60 tulle skirts from the ceiling with lighting at the bottom to create an extra effect.

The ceiling over the reception desk is filled with tulle skirts.

We almost always create a spatial concept that we follow throughout the process – this project is based on the concept of LAYERS. Layer on layer. Base, foundation, powder, blush, mascara, nail polish, perfume. A selection of the products we use every day to highlight or to conceal.

A: What did your process look like for this project?

BU: We almost always create a spatial concept that we follow throughout the process – this project is based on the concept of LAYERS. Layer on layer. Base, foundation, powder, blush, mascara, nail polish, perfume. A selection of the products we use every day to highlight or to conceal. That principle creates the spatial concept for Saether’s office in Stockholm, which is a Nordic beauty distributor.

Each room is built up with the impression of layers and coats, where the raw and clean is as beautiful as the painted. Different impressions, tones and structures create a coherent whole that breathes elegance together with a lovely and warm feeling.

A: Did the process differ from how you usually work?

BU: No, we wouldn’t say that. The more we have a say in from start is always appreciated and, on this project, we got to come in quite early in the process.

A: Which fabrics from Astrid have you used?

BU: We have used California and Rivoli in beige and pink colours.

A: Do you have a favorite quality from us?

BU: We are always happy to work with your fabrics as we usually want to add a little colour with the textiles and almost always find something suitable from you. But California with its luster has probably become a bit of a favourite.

That’s probably our approach to colour, we are not afraid of it, on the contrary it inspires us to see what it does to people. We have received a lot of skeptical faces from craftsmen and painters, especially when we present the project’s colours, but the funny thing is that basically everyone has returned with positive feedback and thinks it turned out so nice in the end.

A: Please tell us a little about yourselves?

BU: We are a design studio that creates interiors, exhibitions and objects using spatial concepts and a distinct process, with the goal of changing the view of interior design and raising the status of the room as a communication carrier. We are definitely not afraid to add a little colour.

A: What would you say is your signature style and aesthetic?

BU: That’s probably our approach to colour, we are not afraid of it, on the contrary it inspires us to see what it does to people. We have received a lot of skeptical faces from craftsmen and painters, especially when we present the project’s colours, but the funny thing is that basically everyone has returned with positive feedback and thinks it turned out so nice in the end.

We often tailor make the key components in the interior so that it fits the spatial concept we are working on. For example, reception desk, bar and exhibition podiums in this case.

Details are also a favorite to work with. Often small, but they really add to the whole in the end.

A: Where do you find inspiration?

BU: It can be anything – a floor, an object, an existing interior design, the fashion world and not least other colleagues in the industry.

A: Do you have a dream project?

BU: We are open to most things, both small and large projects appeal to us. But a restaurant or a hotel would be very fun. Or making a shop interior for a larger fashion department store would be incredibly fun
